When Push Comes
| The series When Push Comes (2005) examined the connections between intimacy, violence, and sex, and was constructed to reference boxing gloves, a heavy bag, mouth guards, a sparring pad, and speed bags. Viewers understood that the standard etiquette of high art appreciation did not apply to this work, and interacted violently with the sculptures. Their subsequent emotional and intellectual responses were intended to be more self-consciously critical of both their own actions and of boxing’s violence generally. |
